Roland L-CDX-04 is very strong, arguably the best in the bunch - in my opinion Roland's string ensemble are second to none - there's a certain warmth and expressiveness in their samples that I particularly like. The solo instruments are also outstanding, ranging from excellent solo violins, to expressive cellos and powerful contrabasses.

Kawai's top of the line workstation back in 1996 was called the K5000. Additive synthesis and PCM sampled waveforms for layering of all kinds of sounds made this a very rare bird indeed. The K5000 was used by Kraftwerk.

Released in 1981, The Casio VL-1 was the first synthesizer of Casios VL-Tone product line. It was a synth, a sequencer, a drum machine AND a calculator all in one! VL-1 was really small and could be taken anywhere even on the bus! The simple cheesy sounds of the VL-Tone have been used by Devo, Elastica, Trio and The Human League.
